Week 1: Welcome to COMSTRAT 310!

Welcome to COMSTRAT 310 Digital Content Promotion – a course designed to help students apply writing, critical thinking, and persuasion skills to the practice and promotion of PR and advertising, in both digital and social media outlets.

Students are introduced to digital campaign planning and project management – challenged on how to establish purposeful and measurable outcomes and trained on the setup, design, delivery, and measurement of various online tools used by practitioners for web development, email outreach, social media engagement and online advertising.

The main goal in 310 is to introduce students to key ideas, principles, and tactics for writing for digital content, creating and executing a digital campaign and understanding core concepts in tracking and measuring the effectiveness of digital communications. Where you find information:  Most of the course content is housed within the course blog at https://comstrat310.com/. This includes lesson overviews, assignment links, instructions and due dates, digital syllabus, course schedule and everything else you will need to be successful as a 310 student. A few other resources

  • Access the 310-course space in Blackboard to turn in assignments in drop boxes and My Grades so you can stay on top of your progress.
  • Access the e-textbook using your login and password: Great River Learning.
  • Access myWSU for the course roster and enrollment status, midterm grades, final grades

Announcements:  Announcements will be posted in the course blog and via emails sent to your WSU account to help keep you on track, remind you of critical deadlines and provide you with helpful resources and tips and other information related to the course.

Please purchase the e-textbook by the 2nd week of class as your first graded reading quizzes are due Wed, Jan 23.

Lesson 1: Course Orientation & Integrated Digital Marketing as a Profession (week 1: Jan 7, 9, 11 and week 2: Jan 14, 16, 18)

In the first lesson we will cover course orientation and establishing a foundation for what it means to be a digital marketing professional. We will also kick off the 310 semester-long project including overview, forming teams and initial planning. Please complete the Forming Teams Survey by Fri, Jan 11.
